I travel abroad with different groups of people and want to put the people from each trip in a different group on the People page. How can I do this? Each group has different people in it.

You can't put multiple people into one "group" in the people section (they are not groups, they are people). Each person MUST be only one person, otherwise you will stop the automatic face recognition from working.
You probably need to use tags or albums to achieve what you want.
