A very slow down after connect a second display...

I have a Mac book pro 2017 15” (i7 and 16 Gb ram). I always was happy with my Mac (including Catalina upgrade). I usually used an external display to improve my experience and to work better, because the second monitor gives me more space and it allow me to work in two or more apps to same time.

However, after upgrade to Big Sur, my problems begun. My Mac works perfectly when I don’t connect my external monitor. But, if I just connect my monitor the performance falls severely. I cannot use the two tabs from safari, a word document and a music from Spotify. Another problem, if I turn on webcam in a call from hangouts or FaceTime, my Mac breaks...

Why?

Does someone have the same problem??? To format Mac will solve it??? I must wait a new upgrade?? If I don’t use a external monitor, all works fine...

Hey sandbc, thank you for posting here in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you're experiencing some issues with an external display after updating the macOS, and we'd be happy to help. To start, make sure you're using the latest version of macOS Big Sur: How to update the software on your Mac

Then, test to see if you have issues in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac

If you still see performance issues, reset the SMC and NVRAM:

Since this is only happening with the external monitor? Do you possibly have another monitor to test to see if the same thing occurs?

You may want to reach out to the manufacturer to see if there are any driver updates.

The community looks forward to hearing back from you.

Cheers!
