Getting Beach ball consistently during normal editing (play/pause etc.)

I am working on a 2019 MacBook Pro 16" 2.4GHz 8-Core i9, 32GB Ram, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB, 2TB SSD

macOS 11.1 Big Sur

My Library has 11 events and it is stored on a Samsung T5 SSD with plenty of free space (500GB+) all media is stored outside the library on the same SSD

There is a mix of HD, 4K content in the timeline, but this tends to happen even in projects with all HD content

This has slowed my workflow down to a crawl and doesn't make any sense considering the specs right?

If anyone has any suggestions let me know!

I moved the event I was working on to its own library and it seems to be running smoothly now. I think this is probably the best way to isolate issues in FCP. I'd been working in the old library for a client during most of 2020 so it might have been getting bloated and messy. I'll report back if the issue persists.
