iMovie/Apple Music

Apple Music is DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected and cannot be used in iMovie. Downloading the music to iTunes will not remove the DRM protection. Aside from that, Apple Music is a subscription service intended for streaming music for personal listening, and not intended to be used in other apps.

You can still purchase songs from iTunes that can be used in iMovie.

To add a song to a project, click on the Audio item above the media browser and then click on Music in the sidebar. You will get a list of your iTunes songs in the browser screen. From there you can drag the song into your project by dragging it to the audio well below the video timeline. Alternatively, you can open the iTunes app and drag a song directly from your iTunes library into the iMovie timeline. Further, any audio file that you have on your desktop can be dragged into iMovie as long as it is in a supported audio format, such as AAC, Mp3, aiff, or WAV.
