For some reason I cannot run a speed test using https://www.speedtest.net/. i always used to be able to.
I can run speed tests using every other service like Google Speed Test. I can use the SpeedTest App on my iPhone no problem, so not my network that's the issue. Only on my Mac. I have also tried tinkering with privacy and content setting with no luck.
Does anyone have an answer to this?
If you are using an older Speedtest.net application on your Mac, it may be Flash dependent and that is now gone. Try speedof.me which is HTML5 based in your browser of choice.

Are you using the free Ad and Stuff Blocker from the Mac App Store. You would download, run, and close the app to install the Safari extension.
I was able to run a speed test this morning in Safari 14.0.2 on Big Sur 11.1 without any issues — with and without any VPN connection. There must be something at your location, or with your ISP that is causing this issue, and it may be temporary.
Shutdown your Mac. Power off your router, and your ISP modem. Wait five minutes, then power up the ISP modem, and when it is fully operational, then power on your router, and when it is operational, then power up your Mac. Before attempting the speed test again, clear out your browser's cookies and cache.
Also no longer working from app, will work if I go to the web page. Deleted and reinstalled app, will not work from launchpad, applications folder nor App Store link. Running Big Sur 11.2. Works from App on my iPhone and my AppleTV
The speedof.me site has been adding a deluge of advertisements, and I won't access it without the content blocker on.

Did all that still not working. It's definitely something on the system. My wife's new Macbook Air with Big Sur runs a speed test on Speedtest.net no problem, so does my iPhone. So definitely my machine.
I'll have to keep tinkering around until something gives :)
FWIW, speedof.me has a recommendation to purchase CleanMyMac X. Bad them.
Agreed. But with my Ad and stuff blocker Safari extension, there are no advertisements of any kind on that speedof.me site.
Your "Ad and stuff blocker" must be better than mine because I see the ad on the bottom left of the page once the test runs in both Safari & Firefox. I haven't checked any others.
Safari 14.0.2 on my M1 mini, there is literally nothing to be seen at the bottom following a test:

Well, I have content blocking on and I don't see any ads other than the one in the corner after the test result. Beats me.
I have the latest version of the app. When I try the browser version I get the following;
No. I didn't even know it was a "thing". I thought you were being "generic". It wouldn't help Firefox or Chrome, etc. anyway. Not to mention I have no reason to frequent speedof.me. :)
