iPad comparison -- the old-timey air vs a new basic?

My 2014 Air has died on me and I"m wondering how the 2020 compare?

What I'm asking is how does the old 2014 Air stack up to the new 2020 (non-air) iPad?

Don't really care about screen size; I guess I'm curious as to how much has changed in the past 6 or 7 years...would I notice a big degradation in going for the more budget-friendly purchase?

The price difference between the two in 2021 is CAD$350 (wifi only) ....

Definitely not a downgrade for the 8th generation. The CPU is 5 generations newer, thus more processing capability. 3 times the RAM of the old iPad Air. The ability to run up to date versions of iOS, thus newer apps.
