If you have a ten year old iPad, potentially a first generation iPad, it will be of little use to anyone - either to you or to your grandson for schoolwork.

All iPad models of this era are obsolete. iPad1, iPad2, iPad3, iPad4 and iPad mini1 are are 32-bit devices - for which you will not find any usable Apps in the Apple App Store. The web browser on these devices will similarly restricted - ranging from entirely useless, to being of very limited capability.

Sorry, not the news you were looking for - but I hope this explanation of reality will save the effort that you will otherwise expend in reaching ultimate disappointment and frustration.

If seeking something suitable for schoolwork, perhaps consider the current entry-level iPad8. This is the cheapest of the iPad models - but is principally designed for educational environments. The iPad8 is very capable, runs the most recent version of iPadOS - and supports almost all modern Apps.

Your iPad is too old for anyone too use, now.

If its a nearly 10 or 11-year old iPad, it is pretty much a useless, obsolete devixe

Sorry.

You really need to seriously consider a new iPad model OR a much, MUCH “newer” and less expensive, used iPad models, from better known, trusted Apple product/device retailers/resellers, capable of running the latest iPadOS versions.

There are plenty of newer, older iPad models that can run the latest, current versions of iPadOS.

Sorry & Best of Luck to You!
