I want to purchase a Homepod mini - I have the iPhone 6s (latest ios 14.3) and my wife has the iPhone 6 (ios 12.something...).
My concern is she will not be able to use it and its features...
Can the iPhone 6 be linked with the Homepod mini?

You will need to use the 6s to set up the HomePod mini. Once configured it should be possible to AirPlay from either phone as far as I can tell. More interesting uses, such as multiuser on HomePod - Apple Support require that both of you are running the latest version of iOS.

The information does say your iPhone software has to be iOS 13.2. Considering my wife’s iPhone 6 is only just on 12.5.1 - does this mean the service functions will be limited?
For example - will she be able to add calendar reminders, add to shopping lists, make phone calls etc?
Id like her to have the full experience and not just airplay music to the HomePod mini.

I can't say for certain, but I suspect that any of the deeper interactions with an account will require a newer version of iOS. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to test.
