HELP! Updater icons constantly appearing on desktop!!

Hi,

I keep getting loads of random updater icons appearing on my desktop, (see picture) if i don't do anything it just keeps going and fills the screen, all i can do is delete them but then next time they appear again. Does anyone know how to stop them? I've tried safe boot as that would a suggestion when i googled it but that didn't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

That is unfortunate. Next troubleshooting step is to download and run free Etrecheck report, either from the app store or from the developer. Run it and post it in its entirety using the little additional text icon (third from right) to see if it shows any of the usual suspects.

Thanks for the report - you do need to use that additional text icon for a long post.

Anyway, the one thing standing out immediately is: go to Avast and get their uninstall instructions. Do that, reboot, and see if anything is better. There are a ton of Avast extensions.

And, as an aside (nothing to do with the current problem), watch your free space on your internal drive: you've got about the very minimum left. Always have 10 - 15 GB of space so the OS can function efficiently and properly.

Re. Avast: yes, uninstall it. There is no need for any other useless software. As of Catalina, Mac OS is now "sequestered" on a read only volume that is not accessible to you or anyone or anything else. So, any AV or similar "stuff" is absolutely superfluous as it can't get to work on any system files.

That infamous storage amount is known to be extremely inaccurate - I actually never look at it. According to the report it shows 17+ GB free. FWIW, you have a tiny hard drive - 128 GB is too small for comfort in my opinion, but that is what you've got - it means that you will just need to monitor it. You also only have 8 GB RAM which, for todays' OS versions, is the absolute minimum especially with all of your MS stuff.

And, out of curiosity, the report shows that you're running 10.15.7, but it also shows that you're installed 11.1???? Where did that go?
