Keynote distribute function not working properly

Hello, when I attempt to distribute objects vertically (text boxes and grouped items) in Keynote, the boxes end up overlapping each other. This happens even though there is plenty of space in between them to distribute them vertically.

I've tried ungrouping the items but not only that is not ideal, but it also leads to the same result. As you can see from the picture below, the size of the boxes is also not the issue. The only thing that works is reducing the text in the top box to a single paragraph but unfortunately I have more than one paragraph to write.

Is anybody else encountering this issue? Has anybody found a way to fix it?

Thanks in advance

P. S. I've tried on different versions of Keynote but the result is still the same.

Try each of the following in turn, to test your system:

  • test Keynote in a different user account on the Mac
  • shut down the Mac then restart with the shift button held down until the Apple icon is displayed, it will take a few minutes longer as the Mac will perform a software repair, when fully booted, restart the Mac again
  • remove Keynote from the Applications folder, empty the trash, then download Keynote again from the Mac App Store
