Shutdowns without an accompanying explanation can be heat-related. Newer Macs clock back the processor to address detected heat increases but, in a really bad overheat condition, could shut down to save its brain.


I've noticed on my iMac that has a very large cooling fan that it internal temps can rise fairly fast when using Zoom. Zoom is not an "easy-on-the-hardware" app. The first thing you should check is your work area. Your computer has to breathe to stay within proper operating temps.


If you:

  • use it on your lap or on a blanket or pillow,
  • have the hinge area blocked
  • use a key cover

the temps can rise to critical levels.


Anti-virus and so-called "cleaning/optimizing" apps can run up heat as well. So can some browsers (Chrome). Please see:
