Big Sur upgrade

Just tried twice to upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur as advised by Apple. Laptop only a few months old. Twice it has come up with ‘an error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.’ This is ridiculous. How many times? And why wasn’t it done by Apple?

Can anyone tell me how to achieve the update please?

There are various ways to upgrade to Big Sur. Shutdown computer. Connect via Ethernet connection >> Restart in Safe Mode ( shift key ) Immediately at startup >> Open Apple Apps Store >> Download Big Sur. It is very big @ 12.18 GB in size. Try Not to let computer go to sleep or Screen Saver just keep active by moving mouse and NO Apps open. Once completed and new Install Big Sur is in Applications Folder - Do Not allow it to proceed - Quit if it launches. Do A Time Machine Now and if possible 2 Tested Clones to two drives. Now launch the Installer.
