MacBook Pro 2020 Keyboard Back lighting

I have a 2020 Macbook Pro and the keyboard back lighting does not come on until I enter my password. This is both frustration and difficult to enter my password in poor ambient lighting conditions. Is there any way to resolve this issue. Thanks.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.1

Please note—

This is the way it has always worked.

There is no issue, except for your inconvenience as indicated.

You backlight is a "user preference" and you have to log-in and get past the pre-boot condition for your user preferences to load.

The preboot partition contains the code which handles the login for an encrypted drive, after that is successfully unlocked it is handed off to the main OS

When you have an encrypted boot volume you receive a log-in screen before the main OS boots, you have to authenticate that in order for the encryption key for the boot volume to be released.

TouchID is a possible work-a-round, however

Using FileVault encryption requires under certain conditions to manually enter your psswd, ref: 'problems'

Hi MichelleT18

Thank you for your reply, unfortunately neither of your suggestions made any difference. When the computer is switched on or from a restart the keyboard lighting is out. When I enter my password and the computer boots up then the keyboard backlighting comes on and is fine. I am trying to find a way of getting the keyboard lighting to come on at switch on and before I enter my password because in poor ambient lighting conditions I cannot see the keys to enter my password.

Hi Leroydouglas,

Thank you for your reply. It is very disappointing that Apple cannot resolve this fundamental issue that affects every Apple computer owner. It's a bit like asking somebody to feel their way across a room in the dark to find the light switch, when all you need is a movement sensor installed to trigger the lights on.
