Can I download music to iPod shuffle from my Mac. I have a subscription. I have a waterproof iPod shuffle and wanted to listen to music whilst swimming.

Can we still use IPOD Shuffle's? I have been trying to transfer music to my IPOD Shuffle. Used to use it for swimming but haven't used it much in the last 2 years. Now I can't seem to use it at all? Can you use your music from iTunes on any MP3 player ? I'm not an apple person, but my kids are (iPhone) and they have extensive music collection. So I have a question, can you use your music from iTunes on any MP3 player? . The reason I would want it, to be able to use an MP3 player to play music while swimming/doing laps. I've seen where a shuffle can be used, but I don't want to pay that much, and it's out of date anyway. Also wireless doesn't work in this larger pool. Other water proof mp3 players are much cheaper, and look more water resistant. Ok you apple hipsters, help me out. Thanks a lot.
