Screen mirroring with broken display and stuck in recovery assistant mode

Hi

i have a 2017 MacBook Pro. The screen broke recently and I’ve been trying to connect it to an external monitor using the command f1 keyboard. The computer seems to be stuck in recovery assistant mode (or I presume as that was the last time I could see a bit of the screen) every time I restart. Shutting the lid while connected to power source does not do anything also The external monitor and cable have been tested with other laptops and work ok.

any help would be appreciated

On touchbar Macs, provided the touchbar is working, you can use this command to toggle "Mirror displays"

  • Command–Brightness Down: Turn video mirroring on or off when your Mac is connected to more than one display.
