gif player app

I seem to remember that when I clicked on an animated .gif it would open in some program and I could view the movie. Now that is not happening and instead Preview opens up and the frames are all listed in a sidebar and no animation. Can anyone point me to a simple gif player? Thanks. DJH

Click once on an image in the Finder, and press the Spacebar. Quick Look will play animated GIF and PNG. Also, from any web browser, select Open and load the animated GIF (or PNG). That is your player.

This is an animated PNG, that you can right-click and save locally.
