My brand new Apple Watch Series 3 won't stay charging while connected to the charger.

My brand new apple watch won't stay charging. When connected to the charger, it starts charging, but then continually beeps and stops charging. I have to then disconnect it from the charger and reconnect it. The charging typically only lasts a minute or two before it stops and I have to start the process all over again. It's extremely frustrating.
