Siri didn’t quite get that

Siri only works when I press the side button, and does not respond to Hey Siri. When I try to set Siri up to know my voice I get “Siri didn’t quite get that” repeatedly. I know my microphone works fine as I tried a voice memo. I’ve followed every instruction I found online and nothing has helped. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. Believe me, I did everything. It took hours but I finally found something online that suggested cleaning the microphone area. So I got my toothpicks and started to poke at the bottom vents lightly. I was surprised at the bits of dirt that came out. In the end, though, I still had no luck. Something else I saw suggested talking while taking a video then turning the camera to be front facing and talk again. When I did that I was surprised to find that with the front facing camera there was no audio. I started cleaning the top mic area and although it took quite a while, eventually it worked. Siri has been fine since. (When I say I cleaned, I did two things; poked with a toothpick and also used alcohol wipes.) There seem to be a lot of people posting about issues like mine but no suggestion about checking the sound with the front facing camera. I am very happy I was able to solve it. Thanks again for writing.

Greetings vajk,

We're happy to help with this trouble you're having with Siri on your iPhone. First, make sure that Bluetooth is turned off on the iPhone by going to Settings > Bluetooth. If the issue persists after disabling Bluetooth, the next step will be to restore the iPhone to factory settings. Get started with the steps here:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

This article contains a link to help with creating a backup fo your data prior to restoring, so that you don't lose your current data. After restoring and setting the iPhone up as new, test Siri to see if the issue is resolved. Let us know the outcome, and we can go from there.

Have a great day!
