Can't transfer optimized photos

Trying to transfer photos from iphone to macbook, but realized optimized photos don't transfer. How can I get these photos on my macbook so they can be printed? I read you can open each photo so that it downloads to my iphone, but I don't have time to open over 7K photos.

There are two options, both described here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204264

Basically you can use iCloud storage for your photos and download the photos (full size originals) to your Mac from iCloud.

Alternatively, you can select the option on your phone to Download and Keep Originals, but that will download all the originals back to your phone, which could run out of space.
