Wifi calling stops functioning while connected to home wifi network

Wifi calling stops working after the iPhone 12 Pro (ios 14.3) has been connected to the home wifi network for a while (few hours). The iPhone shows wifi connectivity but the iPhone will not make or receive a call without power cycling the device. Any suggestions or solutions? Thanks

iPhone 12 mini, iOS 14

Hey PDJ-SF,

We understand that when your iPhone 12 Pro is connected to your home Wi-Fi network for a few hours, Wi-Fi calling will stop working until you restart your iPhone. To clarify, are you able to successfully make calls with FaceTime audio calls or normal phone calls? We want to see if there are any issues with other types of calls.

Also, please try any steps you haven't already from the steps below. The steps are from this article: Make a call with Wi-Fi Calling

"Get help

If you can't turn on or use Wi-Fi Calling, make sure that your carrier offers Wi-Fi Calling and that your devices have the latest software. Then, follow these steps if you can't turn on Wi-Fi Calling or make a Wi-Fi call. Wait two minutes before you go from one step to the next.

  1. Go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling and make sure that Wi-Fi Calling is on.
  2. Restart your iPhone.
  3. Connect to a different Wi-Fi network. Not all Wi-Fi networks work with Wi-Fi Calling.
  4. Turn Wi-Fi Calling off and then on again.
  5. Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset Network Settings."

Please note with Reset Network Settings, you will need to sign back into any Wi-Fi network that your iPhone was connected to before, including ones with passwords. You will want to make sure your have your Wi-Fi password if your home Wi-Fi is password protected before doing that step. This will also reset APN, VPN, and other cellular settings.

Take care!

Paul,

Thanks for checking out those steps and for that information. You mentioned this is happening when trying to take regular cellular calls. You can see if any steps in this article helps, that haven't been taken already: If you can't make or receive calls on your iPhone That article also does recommend reset network settings near the bottom, if other steps do not help.

Let us know how that goes. Best wishes.

Jospeh_S,

Thank you for your reply. The carrier (verizon) supports WiFi calling. The FaceTime calls work. I have tested / confirmed operation of WiFi Calling via verizon on that wifi network using an iphone 12 mini. I have tried turning on airplane mode (making sure wifi was still active and connected) to block any weak or intermittent cellular signal that could be causing interference. That did not work. I still have to power cycle the iphone 12 Pro to get it to make or receive cellular calls..

I am doing this work remotely for a 80+ year old relative so I am hesitant to reset Network Settings until I am present with the phone because it clears all network passwords (for the current home wifi network and any other wifi network that is store in memory).

Any other steps to try other than the reset of Network Settings?

Regards,

Paul.
