big sur photoshop icon not displaying for .jpg, .tiff., .png files

I just purchased a mac mini M1 with Big Sur. I installed Adobe Photoshop and notice that only the .psd files use the PS icon. Other files that use Adobe Photoshop as their program to open only show the 'Preview' icon on the desktop. I currently have unchecked the box 'show icon preview' as I don't want to see the actual image as the icon, just the classic PS icon so I can differentiate between programs on my desktop (ie: word, excel, pdf, etc.). I tried copying the PS icon in get info with the .psd file and then paste to the get info screen of the .jpg but it won't paste (no option to paste).

Is this an issue with the new M1 mac since Photoshop only has made their software for Intel based computers?

I don't have Big Sur, but try selecting one of the files that does NOT indicate Photoshop where you want it to show Photoshop. Select the file and type COMMAND-I (or File => Get Info).

Look for "Open with" and change it to Photoshop. Check the button for "Change All" to make this the rule for all such files on your Mac.
