Every time i try to back up files onto my external, if i'm moving large folders, most of the time over 20GB at a time, I leave finder running but when i come back i find the job half done and a window that says "AppleEvent timeout". Are there any techniques in Terminal to stop or change when timeout occurs? thanks
It sounds like you are using a scripting system such as AppleScript (which can set an application timeout). What are you using to perform your backups?
Well all i do is drag folders into my external. sometimes when i'm getting files from my friend's external it'll come up with "AppleEvent timeout". most of the time when that happens, i'm dragging folders in excess of 5GB.
Apple Events should not be involved if you are just dragging file items in the Finder. Is there a folder action script attached to the destination folder or some other script that is getting activated?
To my knowledge no. It's just a simple drag and drop. Usually if I leave the computer idle while its transferring it comes up with the timeout. If I'm actively using the computer while the files transfer, then nothing happens and the files transfer without problems.
Well i set my settings so that if i'm not plugged in, it skips the screen saver and directly goes to sleep. does going to sleep affect any processes that are going on or should the processes finish before the computer goes to sleep.
