Documents folder showing 14gb storage being used but file empty?

Hi guys

Documents folder showing 14gb storage being used but file empty? My 'Other' file is also showing that it is holding huge amounts of storage (see pic) but I don't want to delete anything that could cause harm. I need the storage for the latest update.

I am a novice with Apple products therefore any help would be appreciated.

Hi Newbs86,

We see you're not able to delete downloads as expected. If you open Finder, are you able to delete your downloads from there? Have you download a macOS update already? This link covers more information on using Finder. Other can contain any files that do not fall into the other categories. It is normal to see a portion of your space used by Other.
