Clear and activate iPod that was found- No previous owner known

Is there any way, at all, to clear and activate an iPod that was found. Months ago. There is no way to know who the previous owner was. This item is in great condition. Id hate to see it as a paper weight.

You will not be able to use the iPod. See Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch:
