Custom size for Desktop Icons (larger than 128px)

The Terminal commands didn't work for me either.

I found the com.apple.finder.plist at ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

and I can change the DesktopViewSettings > IconViewSettings > iconSize with PLIST Editor (available on the App Store).

Then after a killall Finder in the Terminal, it will change the Desktop icon sizes within the 128x128 limit as seen in the

[Desktop] View > Show View Options dialog. However, if I go above that it acts like it is set for 128, the apparent upper limit.

I also tested with iconSize 512 but it still looks like 128x128 even though the setting says 512.

Setting iconSize to 16, 32, 64, 128 all work.

As the [Desktop] View > Show View Options dialog tops out at 128 there seems to be something beyond the Preference that is stopping larger icons.

Looks like it. Interesting that icons in Finder windows (as IVGU stated) can be 512x512

Apple has likely programmed the FInder to only present 128x128 as maximum icon size and downsamples anything larger to fit that maximum.
