Needing to extend my keyboard's cord

Needing to extend the length of my keyboard's cord. What cable is necessary?

And which jack on the Mac Pro is best to use - - on top of the body or on the back?

• Mac Pro 2019 with the included wired aluminum keyboard

Thanks very much!

Apple recommends only their keyboard extension cable, no longer available as new. It is limited in length and deliberately keyed so that you can not easily install two such cables.

The issue is caused by the keyboard, its captive hub, and the convenience outlets suitable ONLY for a low-power mouse being perilously close to the 500 milliAmp limit for standard USB power. If you overdraw, the keyboard can start to get flaky.

Thanks Grant! In the Apple Store, cables page, (as you noted) I don't see any extension (i.e. male/female) cable for sale. But they do have the 2 m lightning-to-USB-C cable ($35), which is evidently a longer version of the 1 m cable that came in the box.

Alternately… If I end up buying a USB hub, with the idea of killing 2 birds (lengthening my keyboard's reach + giving me more connection options), do you have a recommendation for a suitable hub?

Obviously, my original question remains - - will the keyboard work if it's routed through a hub and back into the original jack on the back of the Mac Pro??
