Data recovery on an unregistered phone (my old phone, kid now has w/different number)

Old phone to my kid with a new number. How do I restore an IPhone from back up? The phone shows unregistered on the Verizon sight and does not come up under my apple sign on. Please let me know how to fix.

PS. Not that tech savy. Sorry
