DLC coating

Hi,

I recently purchased a Graphite Stainless Steel AW6 (GPS+Cellular) and I would like to know if the case has a DLC coating - Apple's website appears to have contrasting info about it...

Thank you!

Hello FAZ7,

Congratulations on your new Apple Watch. We're glad you reached out to the Apple Support Communities with your questions. Per the technical specifications, it looks like the Space Black Apple Watch 6 has a DLC finish. To get more details on the other finishes available, check out the Apple Watch Series 6 - Technical Specifications for more information.

Cheers!

Hi barberlives,

Thank you for your reply. I’m afraid that it doesn’t answer my question though... I bought the Stainless Steel Graphite, not the Space Black - which comes only in Titanium. According to the link you posted, there is no indication that any stainless steel has DLC coating. If you however go into the specific page to purchase a Graphite Stainless Steel, you’ll see that DLC is listed in the technical specs. This is what confuses me, and what no Apple expert had been able to clarify for me thus far. I’m loving my new watch and I’m glad I’ve gone for Stainless Steel, as I much prefer it to the matt Titanium finish... if only I could have the peace of mind of knowing it has DLC coating it’d be the best Apple Watch so far!

Thanks again, all the best!

That’s exactly what I said a couple of posts above - thank you! It baffles me that no one knows the answer to this, when I phoned Apple about it the tech person didn’t even know what DLC was - he said he had only heard of it in a software context... Anyways, I’m very happy with my Graphite SS so far.

WOW! That should be the first thing to know about any stainless steel case. Well, from all the looking around, my best guess is that it's not DLC. Maybe it's PVD. At least we know that the Space Black is the only one that has a specific DLC coating. I'm glad you are happy with it. It's a great watch and if you get scratches I guess you could polish it.
