resetting to factory setting - Macbook pro-Retina, mid-2014, i5 13"

I need help resetting to factory settings in order to sell my macbook pro. I have already backed up and erased files, signed out of icloud, imessage, etc.

It seems like you have already performed many of the necessary steps, but here is an Apple article on how to prepare your Mac for sale:

I would recommend creating a bootable macOS USB installer so that you have more options in case something goes wrong:

Make sure to select the physical drive when performing the erase with Disk Utility. This Apple article shows how to reveal the physical drive within later versions of Disk Utility since Apple has now hidden the physical drive from view by default:
