You may need to link the remote again. (Don’t skip step one, to clear the memory of a link to a previous remote.)

Re-Power:

If resyncing the remote does not work, then power off your Apple TV > wait 30 seconds > power it back in > try this once more. Or, maybe it is time for a new remote or a chance to upgrade to a newer Apple TV model (Apple TV 4).
