Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which MacBook Pro model you have, download El Capitan, High Sierra, Catalina, or Big Sur.
If you're using a version of Safari older than 10.1.2, you can install all Safari and security updates listed in the Mac App Store instead of upgrading the OS.
