is there any way to get the battery replaced in my ipad air, I have trouble shot to the end, held the home and start buttons for up to a minute and all is still black, i.e. no apple logo...nothing

Did you bring it to an Apple store? They can do some testing which might rule out other possibilities (bad lightening port, improper voltage readings, bad screen/digitizer). If they verify your suspicions (bad battery) then you can decide if you want to pay Apple to do it, take it to a repair shop, or report to the dreaded "brother-in-law that fixes stuff..."
