can I download a compatable driver for my HP Deskjet F4280?

The last driver support from HP for this device was OS X Mavericks in 2014. There is driver support for the Deskjet F4280 in the Dec 2020 HP Printer Drivers v5.1 download. Once you install this, you will need to reset the printing system (right-click on the printer entry on the Printers & Scanners preference panel), and re-add the Deskjet F4200 Series drivers.

Verify Compatibility:

Please Clarify what the version is of your macOS? If you have anything later than 10.9, then it is not an option for your macOS. The driver is not available for 10.9 and thereafter. Site: Software and drivers for HP Deskjet F4280 All-in-One Printer | HP Support

To Find Out:

1. Go to: the Apple Menu
2. Select: About this Mac...
3. View: the second line-down.

As a Workaround:

Run it Using a Windows Virtual Machine:

If there ends up being not solution for this, consider using a Virtual Machine(VM) for running Windows (Windows-in-a-window). You would open items in it, and use Windows-only compatible software on it. All would be accessed and would operate as desired on the VM. Virtual Machine applications include VMWare Fusion and Parallels. Learn more here: What Is a Virtual Machine? - VMWare Support. Point Being: it may be much less than purchasing a new printer.
