Messages on Mac Book Air

As of today, Messages on my new Mac Book Air M1 is not working. I can send and receive messages, but if I open a photo and save it, I can no longer close that photo until I restart messages. This makes the app almost useless for me as I use it mostly for this purpose.

Has anyone experienced this and is there any simple fix without having to wait hours for an Apple support person, which is lately taking a very long time? Thank you.

Hey artbx,

We see that when you open up a photo through the Message app, you can't close out of it and we'd like to help!

Thank you for your response. I had tried all of the troubleshooting steps you mentioned, and did reach Apple support. A senior advisor is assisting on this. This issue which they have not seen reported as yet on the M1 MacBook Air has been handed off to Apple engineering after a very intensive session that did not uncover the cause of this problem.

Once I have a response back from Apple support and the issue is resolved, I will share that resolution on this site.

All the best,
