Taking a truly hands-free photo with iPhone 12

I have an iPhone 12. when I lift it it does facial recognition and opens. Then I say "Hey Siri take a photo" and it opens the camera but then I seem to actually have to touch the screen or volume button to click the shutter. Is there any way (or an app) that allows you to click the shutter with your voice? (obviously if it is a video, you'd need to stop the recording with your voice too)

Hi Desteiny,

We understand you're trying to take a picture with Siri. We're happy to offer some guidance.

Your description is correct and expected behavior. You can use Siri to open the Camera application, however there is no Siri function to take a picture. If you need to take a picture while not holding your device, you can use the timer feature in the camera app.

To set a timer in the Camera app just select at the top then press the icon.

We hope this helps. Take care!

Thank you for trying to help me but that isn't what I need. I need to do voice command for taking the picture. I hike with my phone in a clear bag hanging from my neck that I can take photos through. I don't want to have to take heavy duty mittens off to take the photo. i think it is great that the phone turns on with the face recognition and opens camera with voice command but it doesn't help if I have to then take the mitten off to shoot the photo. is there a separate app that would accomplish such a feat maybe?
