in photos how can I select many images to be tagged for the same person?

I have about 200 images I want to be tagged to be the same person. So far I seem to only be able to tag and label the images individually — this is tedious to say the least. I can tag and select and change the location, but not WHO is in the image. HELP!

If you want the naming to be in the same format as the automatically named photographs, so that they show up in the people folder, then you can't. That is becasue it is not images that are named, but faces within the images. A photo can have more than one image/face.

What you can do is tag the selected images with a keyword. That key word can be a name. When the photos are selected, open the info pane (CMD-I) and type in the keyword(s) you want.

If you use the same names as keywords, as are used in the people album, then when you search for that name, it will show automatically recognised photos and photos with that keyword.

You can name several images of the same person as once, if you give photos time to finish the automatic face detection. Photos is automatically grouping the faces it is recognising as the same person. You will see them as stacks of faces in the People album. To use them, do it this way.

  • Enable to overlay of faces circles in the View Menu "View > Show Faces". Now you will see, which faces Photos could recognise automatically by the circle around the face, when you view the photo enlarge.
  • Do not directly type the name into the name field below the circle, but swipe up to the Details section and click the thumbnail with the face below the photo. This will open the People album for this person. Type the name into the name field of the album, if it is still unnamed.
  • If it is available, use the command "confirm additional faces" at the bottom of the album. Photos will then show you all photos where it recognised the same person and you can name them summarily.

Before you add and name individually faces, make sure, that you confirmed all additional faces Photos has already recognised. This will save you a lot of work. I am always waiting several days after importing new photos to give Photos time to recognise the people automatically, before I name them individually. It should only be necessary for very small faces or hard to recognise faces.

Yes once selected, how do you tag for the faces / person. I can select files all day long it is getting the images to be tagged as a person.

I must be missing the obvious part of how to update the images to be tagged as a specific person. the (i) (get info icon) doesn't allow me to tag a person with multiple selected only if I open an image am I allowed to select a person.

When I click on "people" I do see that it says:

Updating People...

People will finish updating when Photos is in the background

———————

I have left it "iconified" for 8 hours and then for two days. it never seems to update or locate more faces. Is there anyway to force this? Sadly there is nothing like "confirm additional faces"
