my iphone x is blinking between a black screen and the logo on the screen

my iPhone x is blinking between a black screen and the logo on the screen. I have tried to reset without success. The computer and cord pic comes on the screen with the support website link. I have followed and done what it said. I get onto iTunes and it says it is downloading the update for the phone...then it just sits in a "preparing iPhone for software update" mode....for hours. I don't know what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

From your description, it seems like you have put your iPhone into Recovery Mode. This is a manual mode to allow the iPhone to solve certain problems that it can't during normal operation.
