iPad 12.9 pro wont connect to photos app?

Morning,

So I have the newest iPad Pro 12.9 and a late 2013 27" iMac that I use for my photos app.

Recently when I plug in my iPad to download photos off of it to the Photos App the screen flashes on the Photos app and goes between trying to load the photos on the iPad back to the photo albums I already have.

I have made sure each device is up to date with software.

Checked my cables and such.

I have gotten it to work once or twice but I have to shut everything down and reboot. Then it connects but does not always work.

I did not have any issues with my iPhone until recently as well it has begun to do the same thing.
