SMS is enabled. I am going to my contacts, choosing "My Card" at the top, then I go to the bottom of my contact information (my card) and choose "share contact". I choose a person from my contacts to share with via the message app and his send. If it the receiver is an iPhone user, it goes through, if not, it "fails to send".

I didn't ask if you'd enabled SMS as there's no way to enable or disable that from your phone. Only your carrier can do that. I asked if MMS was enabled. MMS needs to be enabled in order to send what is essentially an attachment. If you meant MMS but mistyped SMS, the next step is to make sure that cellular data is enabled.

It sounds as if you're doing everything the way I'd expect. Just for kicks, instead of using the "My Card" entry at the top, try going through your entry from the regular list of contacts. It shouldn't make a difference but....
