change startup screen

I'd like to see the Big Sur picture when booting the Mac. How do I change it?

Hi David S NY:

If you're referring to the picture that appears on the login screen, there's a few variables that come into play:

  • The default login picture that appears when you restart your Mac and/or log out is set by macOS. There's no easy way to change this.
  • On Intel-based Macs (possibly Apple Silicon as well), if FileVault is on, you'll see the default login picture immediately after you restart your Mac.
  • In all other cases, if you select your user account from the login screen, the picture should change to your desktop background picture.

What version of macOS are you running on your Mac, and what year was your MacBook Pro made in? Does it have the Apple M1 chip?
