Warning - iPhone4 glass breaks easily

Front glass of my iPhone4 shattered yesterday when I got out of the car. Fell from my lap to the pavement and that was all she wrote. Short fall, a little higher than knee height.

Checking around, the glass is not as durable as Apple would have you think. There are lots of shattered iPhones and it's only a month old. I have their bumper too to protect it so it isn't like I haven't taken precautions.

So what's with designing a cell phone out of glass? Two sheets of relatively thin glass. Seeing how easy it shattered I think this is a poor design. Certainly not one I can recommend.

it's called a design flaw. not human error. besides, the iPhone 4 looks like a dinosaur compared to what is now being released by samsung/droid.

Go ahead: Buy a Samsung and drop it. It makes just as much sense to protect your iPhone with a case as it does a Samsung. I'm surprised there are people out there who do not use cases.

I agree, if you are making that signifigant of an investment,

one would think you would want to protect it.

Personally, got an Otter Box Defender and it has paid for

itself twice already. Recently wrecked on my bicycle and

ended up with some bruised and cracked ribs, but the iPhone

was unscathed.

You are correct, it is a design flaw. Apple use tempered glass, which is great if you hit it head on. Problem is, the edges are its weak spot. The home button exposes the edge of the glass creating a weak spot.
