Deactivate iPhone 11

I have an Iphone 11 Pro Max which is going in tomorrow for repair. They told me to "deactivate" it but not to erase the info. This needs to be done from my Mac Pro since the phone won't turn on. Is "deactivate" the same as "removing from the account"?

Who was "they"? Apple?

"Deactivate" isn't a term I have seen used before. Often one is requested to turn off the Find My service before repairs are undertaken. Since hte phone is broken this is the closest you can do to that: Remove a device from Find My iPhone on iCloud.com - https://support.apple.com/guide/icloud/remove-a-device-mmfc0eeddd/icloud
