Hold your finger on the app until a menu appears, then tap Remove App. Or continue holding until the app wriggle, then tap the “x” on the app.

You can do what Lawrence recommended. Alternatively, you can also offload unused application on your device to then download later. Basically, the apps are still visible but not actually being stored on your device; instead, they are stored in the cloud.
