Browser clips wont play in viewer

Browser clips wont play in viewer. Timeline clips play in the viewer just fine though.. Audio plays when I click the clip, but nothing in the viewer. I have the new Macbook pro with m1 chip. Never had this issue before. I reset preferences and reinstalled Final Cut. Nothing seems to work.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.0

This has been happening to me as well on a Mac Mini M1 using FCPX 10.5.1 on Big Sur 11.1. But I think I may have found a temporary workaround until Apple fixes this. Select a clip in the Browser that isn't working, then go to the Inspector window and click on the audio waveform in the Audio Configuration. Then everything returns to normal for a while. Inevitably, the clips stop displaying in the Viewer again. But I can get the functionality back with just a couple of clicks. Not ideal. But at least you can get back to work.

This sounds like the same issue I'm having. I am totally new to FCPX though so it could be something I'm doing.

The issue I had was -

Any clip on the timeline will show and play back OK in the viewer

However when I then choose a clip in the browser it intermittently (99 times of 100) wont show as being selected in the viewer and also wont play back. The viewer just shows the project name on my time line. However if I look at inspector it does show that I have selected the clip in the browser. In addition I can play the clip in the browser & hear it. However as I say it doesn't show in the viewer.

That said, when I closed the app and reopened all now seems to be working OK. I do have two monitors.

I wish I'd know that 3 hours ago.

Did you have any success getting your issue fixed?

I'm thinking this must be a bug in FCPX

Best wishes getting it fixed

I see I'm not alone with this FCP bug. I've installed the 10.5.2 on Big Sur 11.2.3 and I was surprised to discover this issue.

Without timeline everything is ok, but once I open the timeline I can't see the browser clips on viewer. I hope this issue can be fixed as soon as possible. I use Final Cut since many years, but it's the first time that I've this problem.
