M1 MacBook Air battery life

My new M1 MacBook Air can only run roughly 10 hours after being fully charged. I use it for ZOOM classes, Internet via WiFi, Office 365 and don’t watch any movies or don't play any video games.

Apple claims “Up to 15 hours wireless web; Up to 18 hours Apple TV app movie playback”.

Why is there such a huge discrepancy? Does Apple exaggerate M1 MBA’s batter life?

The advertised battery runtime isn’t especially real-world. Streaming video is processor intensive, 10 hrs is excellent for that, really. As an example, my 2017 15” MBP can go >8 hrs with email/PowerPoint/light browsing (literature searches, static content), but barely 3 hrs of Zoom meetings.

If you can work near an outlet, just use it plugged in as much as possible. It won’t harm your battery, rather it will extend the lifespan.
