Apple TV + on old Apple TV

I can't add Apple TV+ app on my old Apple TV device. I assume because it's an old Apple TV Device (running software 6.2.1)

That is correct. Apple TV+ requires an Apple TV (3rd generation or later). An Apple TV (2nd generation) is not supported (not even through AirPlay).
