To reset the Apple News app, you can quit it (News in the top left > Quit). If the app is frozen, you can force quit by Apple Menu (in the top left) > Force Quit > News.

You can also restart the Mac altogether. Apple Menu > Restart

I hope this is what you were referring to.

If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly on Mac - Apple Support


If you are on an iPad, double click the home button quickly, and swipe Apple News away. You can also restart the iPad.

If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open - Apple Support iOS
