password not recognized

Since updating to Big Sur, my password isn't working. I can log into the Mac, but I can't unlock preferences. Today I went to try to reset password, and when it asked for my password, I get the shaking box. it is the correct password and the same I use to log into the Mac, I only use one password.


any help is appreciated.
