My MacBook Pro keys are way too sensitive all of a sudden

A few days ago, I noticed that my keyboard seems to be doubling my keystrokes most of the time. This is frustrating because I had to turn off the "add a period after a double space" because nearly every time I hit the space bar, it double spaces. Also, many letters are doubling. I type pretty fast, and I know I am somewhat forceful with my keystrokes at times, but it feels like the keys are suddenly hypersensitive where they weren't before. I've checked my Accessibility settings and have even played around with them in an attempt to solve the problem, but to no avail. Any idea why this is happening? It's maddening to have to retype everything one word at a time or hit the delete key a billion times just to get a paragraph written!
