icloud desktop appears in side bar but not on mac desktop

I am using a MacBook Pro and have all my files on iCloud. I recently rebuilt the device and now it appears that the local desktop is the default. any ideas how I get iCloud desktop to be the default desktop location? I can see iCloud desktop in sidebar but the desktop displayed is the empty local one.

Desktop Folder Not Appearing in Hard Drive & User Folders - iCloud Drive Turned On I recently discovered that my Desktop folder does not appear under either my hard drive folder, nor my user folder when in the Finder. However, "Desktop" does appear in the left side bar under Favorites and iCloud sections. I recently turned on Documents and Desktop Folders in my iCloud drive. Should I take this to mean my macbook pro is no longer storing my desktop files on my hard drive? My MacBook Desktop Is On iCloud Inadvertently! For some unknown reason, my Desktop is also on iCloud when I only want it on my MacBook Desktop. The message displayed when I go to delete the data on iCloud gives the impression that it'll all be deleted if I continue this action. Question: How do I remove my Desktop files from the iCloud WITHOUT deleting them on my laptop. MacBook Pro 13" 2017 Mojave 10.14.5

never mind all. found it in system preferences/ Apple ID/ iCloud options
